Floris Goodwin Tarpley's Obituary
Floris Goodwin Tarpley , age 91, of Garland, TX passed away on June 09, 2012 after a long illness. Born in Sugarland, TX, Floris graduated high school as valedictorian. She later attended Baylor University where she met her husband of 35 years, LaVerne Goodwin. Moving to Garland in 1939, Floris and LaVerne were active members of the community. Mr. Goodwin was a homebuilder, land developer, and a member of the Garland City Council. Floris played a variety of roles in Garland service organizations. She was a member of the Jaycees Ladys Auxillary, Eastern Hills Lady’s Auxillary and local PTA President. She especially enjoyed her association with Orchard Hills Baptist Church. A loving mother and dedicated homemaker, Floris will be missed by many family and friends. She was preceded in death by husband, LaVerne in 1975 and her son Pat in 1994. Floris remarried in 1988 to Charles Tarpley of Kaufman, TX. Charles passed away in January of 2012. Floris is survived by her sons, Mike and Tim Goodwin and her grandchildren Kathy, Christina, Todd and Drew Goodwin and Doug McKelvey. Visitation will be 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 13, 2012 at Restland Wildwood Chapel, followed immediately by a cryptside service at 11:00 a.m.
