Floy Newman Pearcy Jr.'s Obituary
Our beloved husband, father and friend, Floy Newman Pearcy, Jr., 94 of Garland, Texas, went to his forever home with his Lord Jesus on November 2, 2024.
Newman was born on June 12, 1930, in Dallas, Texas to Floy Newman Pearcy, Sr. and Beatrice Green Pearcy. Newman and his beloved bride, Donna Pearcy of 67 years married in Dallas, Texas on April 12, 1957. Together, they raised their 3 children, Vicki Harris, Don Pearcy and Dennis Pearcy in Garland, Texas.
Newman was a people-person who never met a stranger. His sense of humor and love for the outdoors are some of our fondest memories from fishing, hunting and feeding the birds. He loved God, animals, his cigars, watching sports and the lake. You never knew when he would bring an animal home, including that little doggie in the window. But more than anything he loved and was dedicated to his family. If he wasn't traveling, you could find him at one of his children's and grandchildren's sports events or activities. He was their biggest fan!
He graduated from Peacock Military Academy in San Antonio, Texas in 1947, where he attended from the age of 12. He was a talented multisport athlete. He also spent his childhood summers at the family farm in Gainesville, Texas. As a veteran, he served as a Navy reservist until an automobile accident in which he received Honorable Discharged in 1956. Newman also attended UT Arlington. At age 22, he started a successful 52-year career as a children's apparel salesman locally at the Dallas Apparel Mart and traveled the Texas, Arkansas, Oklahoma and Louisiana Territory. His dedication was admired by the other salesmen. He continued to work at the markets after they moved to the Dallas World Trade Center in 2004 after he retired. To stay active, he took a part time job with Capps car rental where he was a driver.
He and Donna loved the Texas State Fair and enjoyed working during the fair every year in tickets. He and his beautiful bride, Donna, traveled to Europe and South America and many of the states.
For over 60 years, Newman and Donna have been dedicated members of First United Methodist Garland, raising their family there and contributing actively to their Sunday School class, where Newman would bring a new joke each week. He was also a member of the Hella Shrine in Garland, Texas. He was a greeter and volunteered with the hospital as a driver for burn victims and with the Shriner circus, as well as other events.
In 2018, he became a resident at Autumn Leaves skilled nursing facility of Dallas, Texas. He filled the halls with the sounds of Johnny Cash and loved to attend the church services there on Sunday.
His greatest joy was time with family. Pawpaw enjoyed the holidays with the grandkids and great grandkids. He also really loved fishing with them at the lake house at Bigwood Springs Lake in Winnsboro, Texas. It was a lifetime of love and adventure for Newman and Donna. Our grief is comforted by knowing we will see you in heaven Pawpaw, but will miss you until we meet you there.
Proceeded in death by his parents, Floy and Beatrice Pearcy.
Survived by his wife, Donna Pearcy of Dallas, Texas. Daughter Vicki Harris and spouse Greg Harris of Rowlett, Texas. Sons-Donald Pearcy and spouse Jana Pearcy of Rowlett, Texas and Dennis Pearcy and spouse Diana Pearcy of Arlington, Texas.
Grandchildren- Jordan Perkins and spouse Cody Perkins, Gregory Harris, Desirae Bradley and spouse Nolan Bradley, Dustin Pearcy and Devin Pearcy. Great grandchildren- Rylie and Parker Perkins and Beau Bradley.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to First United Methodist Church in Garland. Thank you for your support and generosity. (www.firstmethodistgarland.org)
