Floyd Eugene Delle's Obituary
Floyd Eugene Delle, 84, passed away peacefully Saturday, April 28, 2018. Born September 10, 1933 in Colfax, LA.He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Doris Sylvia Allen Delle. He is survived by sisters, Raye Louise and Mary Linda; brother, Richard; daughter, Sandy Delle Mayabb and her husband Carl; son, Kyle Delle; grandchildren, Stephanie Ridge and husband Jeremy, Ryan Mayabb and wife Sara, Nathan Delle, Jennifer Harrison and husband Ryan, Jacob Delle and Tyler Delle; great grandchildren, Carter, Collins and Ainsley Harrison, Ryder and Griffin Ridge, Lucy Mayabb, and numerous nephews and nieces.Growing up in a single parent family during the Great Depression and World War II, Floyd experienced more than his fair share of challenges as a youth. Often shuffled from relative to relative due to financial hardships of the time, he turned to sandlot baseball for comfort and purpose. His early love of baseball blossomed into a life-long devotion to the game that permeated his family and community. Following high school as the Korean War was raging, Floyd enlisted in the Marine Corps and deployed to Adak, AK, and Japan. He was honorably discharged from the service and became a route salesman for Mrs. Baird’s Bread where he continued to work for over three decades. During that time, he immersed himself in youth baseball, first as a coach and later as President of both South and North Garland Pony Leagues. As much as Floyd loved baseball, he loved life and people and fun. He never met a stranger and was quite the social butterfly. At 84 years old he could still navigate a smart phone and iPad (even though he could never remember a password). He loved the Texas Rangers, everything SMU, fantasy baseball and football, telling stories, ride alongs with the Garland Police, playing dominoes with his church friends, RVing with his Good Sams Club buddies, serving his community as an election monitor, serving his church in the Friendship House, traveling throughout the country, and family gatherings. Above all else, Floyd loved his Savior, his wife and partner of 60 years, his family and friends.Services for Floyd will be held at 10:00am Friday, May 4, 2018 at First Baptist Church of Garland with visitation one hour prior. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the First Baptist Church Friendship House.Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Cemetery, 13005 Greenville Avenue, at Restland Road, Dallas, TX 75243, (972-238-7111).
