Frances Kay Bragg Sykes' Obituary
Kay Sykes departed this world for greater life on March 12, 2016. She was born to Eldred Ray and Mary Frances Hudson Bragg on December 20, 1944 in Kaufman, Texas. She grew up in Dallas and graduated from Bryan Adams High School and later earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from The University of Texas at Dallas and a Master of Arts degree in English Literature from The University of Dallas. On October 19, 1980 she married Steven Sykes of Oak Cliff and he cherished her for 35 years. Kay is survived by Steven, their children Christopher Jackson, Eric Sykes, Christopher Sykes and Jennifer and her husband Travis Griffin, and their grandchildren Alexandra Jackson, Jazz Sykes, Travis Griffin, Jr. and Madison Griffin. Her brother Michael and his wife Susan Bragg, their three children and five grandchildren also survive her. Kay is preceded in death by her parents and stepfather Fred Magee of Plano. She was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother and grandmother and her family loved her dearly. Kay was a beloved member of St. John’s Church in Dallas where she contributed years of service to the vestry and altar guild. Kay was a teacher and lecturer, focusing on classic literature and Christian iconography. She enjoyed music and art and was known for her gracious hospitality and ability to make all occasions special. Friends and family will remember her for her kind heart, thoughtful intellect, noble character and fervent faith. Family will receive friends on Friday, March 18, 2016 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Restland Funeral Home in Dallas. Service will be held on Saturday, March 19, 2016 at 11 a.m. at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Dallas with interment immediately following at Restland Memorial Park. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, TX 75243. Flowers are available through Restland at Rembrandt Florist or in lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. John’s Episcopal Church.
