Thank you Sammy and Barbara, for letting me participate virtually at the funeral service of Earlene. Memories return of my short time together with her sometime between 2006 and 2008 when I drove her home from Christian Care Center. I was able to return to the DART bus station from my day job, get into my car, pick her up at 4:30 p.m, and drive her home on my way to my part time job. Earlene loved talking to me about all of her family members.
Now that you mentioned it at the funeral service, Sammy, Earlene told me how to make the confection, "divinity." She was the expert. I myself tried to make it for my newly wed second husband, Ernest, but failed miserably with white goop spread all over my cookie sheet! Earlene even sewed better than I did, and I had 4 years of college in Fashion Design!
I will never forget the kindness that Earlene, you Sammy, and you Barbara have extended to me over the years. The very day I had my entire family visiting First Methodist Mesquite church to prepare for my first husband John's funeral, you were there right beside me. It was Sammy's first week as pastor there. His first words to us were, "Let us Pray." Sammy and Barbara saw me all the way through my grieving. You guided me to do the right thing, Sammy officiated at my second marriage. You and Barbara cared for me as though I was a member of your own family. I was happy to know your loved ones through Earlene's loving eyes. I pray you will all live the joyful life that she did.
