Francis Bragg's Obituary
Francis Nelson Bragg, 89, of Richardson, Texas, passed away peacefully Saturday evening, June 24, 2017. Francis was born November 8, 1927 in Gainesville, Texas, to Amos and Amma Mae Browning Bragg. Francis left the farm at age 16 and came to Dallas with his first cousin, LTG James Francis Hollingsworth and began his life long career in the grocery business. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army and Air Force. Francis married Doris Jean McCarty on February 21, 1953 and together they had two children. Francis was known as the “Hershey man”, as he worked for Hershey Chocolate Company for over 35 years. Francis and Jean made their home in Oak Cliff, making many cherished long time friends in Glen Oaks and at Glen Oaks UMC. They moved to Richardson in 1974, where they were active members of Spring Valley UMC and the Beacon Sunday School class. Francis was a member of the Richardson Masonic Lodge and the Dallas Woods and Waters Club. Francis was an avid reader, gardener, hunter, cook, bridge and dominos player. Most of all, Francis loved his faith, family, friends, fellowship and fried food. Francis was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Doris Jean McCarty Bragg. Francis is survived by his children, Barry Alan Bragg and DeEtte Bragg Peters (Paul); grandchildren, Taelor Fisher (Robert), Lauren Stewart (Robbie) and Price Peters; his brother Billy Don Bragg, sisters, June Dennis (Archie), Jane Barrett (Harlan) and Linda Nolan; and by numerous nieces and nephews and in-laws from the Bragg, McCarty and Peters families. Thank you to his many doctors and nurses who helped with our dad over the last four years and to two special caretakers, Gloria Mcghie and Rocio Andrade. A funeral service celebrating his life will be held on Saturday, July 1st at 12:30 P.M in the Restland Wildwood Chapel, 13005 Greenville Ave, Dallas, 75243. Visitation will be held in the Wildwood Chapel from 11:30-12:30 preceding the service, with the burial following. In lieu of flowers, the family asks you make donations to Buckner Children and Family Services, 700 N. Pearl St., #1200, Dallas, TX 75201 or go to www.buckner.org. The family will receive friends on Saturday, July 1, 2017, from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM followed by a service at 12:30 PM in The Wildwood Chapel. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, TX 75243.
