Francis Joseph "Jay" Cummings III's Obituary
Francis Joseph “Jay” Cummings III, beloved father, husband, and friend passed away at the age of 74 on April 21, 2023, in Dallas, Texas after recently being diagnosed with lung cancer. Jay was born on June 2, 1948, in New Rochelle, New York to the late Francis Joseph Cummings Jr. and Virginia (Zigmund) Cummings.
Jay met his wife of 50 years, Diane (Charnovitz) Cummings, while studying at the University of Virginia. Together they raised two children, Cherie Cummings and Andrew Cummings. Jay was a dedicated family man who always put his loved ones first. In addition to his wife and children, Jay is survived by his sister, Therese Aimone, her husband Bill Aimone, and many nieces and nephews.
Jay was an accomplished scholar who received his undergraduate degree at Colgate University before continuing his education at the University of Virginia where he obtained his PhD in Economics. Jay became a Professor of Economics and later an economic consultant.
Aside from his work and family, Jay had many hobbies and interests that enriched his life. Jay was an active member of the Choreographed Ballroom Dancing community for over 40 years, which led him to travel throughout the United States with his beloved wife and dance partner Diane. He also had a love for cooking and woodworking.
Jay Cummings will be deeply missed by his loving family, friends, and dance community.
