Frank John Schroeder Jr.'s Obituary
SCHROEDER, JR., FRANK JOHN, 83, died November 2, 2013 in Houston, Texas after a long illness. He was born near Machias, New York on March 19, 1930, to Frank and Amy (Leveaux) Schroeder. From such roots as tenant farming and a one-room schoolhouse, Frank went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in physics from Alfred University. He lettered there as a competitor in track and field. After graduating, he enlisted in the US Air Force, and became engaged to be married. Frank served during the Korean War, was decorated with four service medals, and was honorably discharged. He then married, soon became a father, and earned a second bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Washington University in St. Louis. Frank was a devoted husband and father. He moved his growing family to Texas in 1959. He served as a member and deacon of First Christian Church (now United Disciples Christian Church) in Richardson for over 40 years alongside his wife Virginia. Professionally, Frank was an electrical engineer, working some 30 years in research for Texas Instruments. Frank is also remembered for the love and unfailing care he gave to Virginia when she fell into ill health. Among Frank’s many interests were bird watching, meteorology, and reading about subjects ranging from Christian life to humor and current events to technology. He was an avid traveler and enjoyed camping, gardening, photography, spectator sports, fishing and dancing. He chronicled his observations and experiences in journals throughout his life. Frank is survived by son David (Carla) Schroeder, daughters Evelyn (Don) Grubb, and Mary Fowler, son-in-law David Everett; nine grandchildren Katie Schroeder, Lisa (Nate) Steinken, Christine (Pete) Lee, Jen Blohm, Liz Grubb, Marguerite Grubb, Joshua Fowler, Meg Fowler, and Geena Fowler; and one great-grandchild by Katie, Jude Crumpacker. Frank was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years Virginia (Lewis) Schroeder in 2007, by daughter Carolyn Everett in 2009, and by son-in-law Mark Fowler in 2012. Interment with full military honors will take place at Restland in Dallas. Memorial gifts may be made to United Disciples Christian Church, 601 East Main, Richardson, TX, 75081.
