Services will be 12:30 p.m. Monday, July 3, 2017 at Restland Funeral Home, Wildwood Chapel. Visitation for family and friends will be 5-7 p.m. Sunday, July 2, 2017 at Restland Funeral Home, 13005 Greenville Ave. Frank Marion Tanzy was born October 9, 1919 to Sidney Matthew Tanzy and Rosa Lillian (Thomas) Tanzy in Wolfe City, TX. He graduated from Commerce High School in Commerce, TX. Frank then graduated from East Texas State Teachers College (now known as Texas A&M at Commerce). He would go on to do graduate work at Southern Methodist University in Industrial Psychology. Frank served in World War II in the U.S. Army, training as B-17 Engineer Gunner. On the day that Frank and his crew were scheduled to ship overseas, Frank came down with the mumps, preventing him from joining the mission. Soon after, Frank started training as a B-29 Gunner. While flying over Wyoming, he would learn that the U.S. had dropped an atomic bomb on Hiroshima, Japan, ending the war. He was later honorably discharged and resumed civilian life. Frank then worked for Braniff International Airways as an Assistant Station Manager at Dallas Love Field, where he met his future wife, Barbara. He married Barbara Ann Thrower on December 31, 1959 in Dallas, TX. After marrying, Frank started his own business, Frank Tanzy Realtors. Barbara later joined Frank, and together they ran a very successful real estate company. After Barbara’s death in 2002, Frank continued to run the company until his retirement in 2006 at the age of 86, after a 40+ year career in the real estate business. Frank was a longtime member of Highland Park Presbyterian Church. He was also a member of the Greater Dallas Association of Realtors, the Texas Association of Realtors, and the National Association of Realtors. Frank was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend. He was an inspiration to us all on how to live with integrity, overcome obstacles and count one’s blessings. While we mourn his passing, we celebrate his life. Frank was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Barbara Tanzy. He is survived by his children, Karen Tanzy, Janis Tanzy and Brent Tanzy; son-in-law, John Byrum; daughter-in-law, Deborah Tanzy; six grandchildren, Carmen Ellison and spouse, Jodi Roszell, Amanda and husband, Philbert Salas, Uriah and Elias Tanzy, Jonathan and Brendan Byrum; three great-grandchildren, Payton, Mabon and Finn Salas; and brother, Sidney Tanzy and wife Leona.
