Franklin Lee Long's Obituary
Franklin Lee Long of Phoenix, Arizona, passed away on April 7, 2025 in Phoenix. He will always be remembered as a kind and fair man and a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend to all who knew and loved him. Franklin was born on January 22, 1942 in Dallas, Texas to Ed Sr. and Addie Long. He began his education in Dallas at Munger Avenue Baptist Church Preschool and Kindergarten and continued through several elementary schools, graduating in 1960 from the great Madison High School. He received a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Chemistry and Math from Bishop College and his Master of Science (MS) degree in Medical Biochemistry from Baylor University, Wadley Research Center, all in Dallas. He spent over 35 years working in the Semiconductor/Microelectronics industry, working for Texas Instruments (one of the first Black engineers hired), Motorola, Burr Brown Corporation, and Freescale Semiconductor in various engineering and engineering management positions.
Franklin is survived by his wife of 56 years, Mary Lundgren Long, of Phoenix, Arizona, daughters Jacqueline Lawson (Grant), and Michelle Long-Colclough, grandsons Mark Colclough, Lionel Noa Lincoln and Zachary Lincoln, brothers Ed Long, Jr. (Alice) and Jerry Long (Tammie) and nieces and nephews Antoinette Watkins, Ed Long, III, Dawn Beatty, Joshua Lundgren and Christopher Lundgren.
The visitation will be held at Restland Funeral Home from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Thursday, April 17, 2025 with the Funeral Service at 10:30 am on Friday, April 18, 2025 at Restland's Wildwood Chapel. Interment Restland Cemetery & Memorial Park.
