Freda Pauline "Polly" Barker's Obituary
Freda Pauline Barker, lovingly known as Polly, passed away on April 16, 2026, at the age of 82. She was born in Dallas, Texas, on September 21, 1943, to Freda Pauline Wakins Miller and Willie Welch Miller. Tragically her mother passed away from polio while pregnant, and Polly was delivered by cesarean section immediately after her death. Remarkably, she was born with no signs of the poliomyelitis that was fatal to her mother. She was then lovingly raised by Marvin Gartrell Wester and Irene Eula Watkins Wester, who later legally adopted her.
Polly married the love of her life, J.D. Barker Jr. on June 16, 1962. They were married for 63 years. She devoted herself wholeheartedly to her home and family, embracing her role as a faithful, dedicated housewife and a loving mother to her two daughters, Darla and Deana. She took great pride in keeping a tidy, beautiful home and had a natural gift for creating order and warmth.
Polly enjoyed shopping and always took care to look her best, carrying herself with quiet elegance and grace. She supported her children and grandchildren by attending every school related and milestone event she could. She had a kind spirit that spilled over to neighbors and friends and was MeMe to many.
Her greatest gift was her unconditional love and unwavering support for her family. She loved deeply and generously, and in return, she was cherished by all who had the blessing of knowing her.
Polly is survived by her husband, JD Barker Jr., children Darla Jean Willard, Deana Jill Dean and Jimmie Dean, grandchildren Natalie Johnson and Brandon, Jonathon Kelley, Michele Thomas and Cody, Krista Samples and Johnny, Jennifer Rhodes and Joshua, Tommy Willard Jr. and Anna, 20 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Freda & Willie Miller, Marvin and Irene Wester; brothers George Miller and Lari Wester, and sister, Roberta Travis.
Visitation will be held on April 24, 2026 at Restland Funeral Home, 13005 Greenville Ave, Dallas, TX 75243.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Cheyenne Medical Lodge, their staff, nurses and aides who were very attentive and loving.
Polly’s memory will forever live on in the hearts of those she loved.
To update, a Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be taking place on Sunday, June 14, 2026, at 2 PM, in Restland's Wildwood Chapel, 13005 Greenville Ave, Dallas, TX 75243. Following the service, she will be laid to rest in the Masonic Section at Restland Memorial Park.
