Freda Iona Jones' Obituary
Freda Jones was born in Dallas, Texas to Erma and J.D. Toole. After graduating from Crozier Tech High School, Freda married and moved to Garland where she was blessed with seven children.
Freda was the heart and soul of our family. The needs of her children came first and foremost in Mom’s life. She had many ups and downs throughout her life, but always kept her sense of humor and her sense of self.
Freda started her working career in banking and later moved to the hospitality industry where she worked for many years until retiring as the Controller for the Omni Hotel in Richardson. She was an active volunteer for Richardson Friends of the Library, an enthusiastic theater attendee, (especially musicals), and traveling to cities, both near and far, to visit her children. She rarely turned down a chance to have an ice cream at Braum’s or play the pennies at nearby casinos.
She was soft spoken, kind, loyal, and trustworthy. When you would see her, you never left without a hug or a kiss.
Freda leaves her children, her family, and dear and loyal friends, to start her next journey with our Lord.
She might not have moved the world or attained heights of great importance but, she moved our world with a greater love than anyone could imagine. Our Mother, our friend, forever.
Freda is survived by her daughter, Cheryl and husband Russell Thornton of Grand Prairie, daughter Brynda Ames of Garland, daughter Patricia and husband Joe Higdon of Lawrence, Kansas, son Jim and wife Theresa Jones of Richardson, daughter Janice and husband John-Marc Gallagher of Bryson City, NC, son Calvin Jones of Granada, Nicaragua and son Steven and wife Sharon Jones of Greenville, NC. Freda is also survived by eight grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.
