Freddie W. Crowley's Obituary
Born July 12, 1936 in Odessa, Texas and passed away February 26, 2016 in Ft. Worth, Texas. Preceded in death by his wife, Jacquelyn Black Crowley; parents, Jack and Margaret Cassidy Crowley; and grandparents, Judge James and Margaret Mitchell Crowley of Odessa, Texas. Survived by son, Myrick Wayne Butler of Lompoc, California; grandsons, Derek Scott Butler and Kyle Patrick Butler of Arizona; sister-in-law, Sunny Black Rhodes of Richardson, Texas; and cousins, Rick Dickson of Odessa, Texas and Don Crowley of Marble Falls, Texas. Fred was a member of the extensive Crowley, Cassity and Mitchell families, residents of Ector County as early as 1927. He was raised by his grandparents, Judge James and Margaret Crowley. He attended Bowie Jr. High and Odessa High School where he participated in many athletic programs: Junior Varsity Football, baseball and swim team, specializing in high board diving. In September 1955 he joined the U.S. Marine Corp, serving for 10 years in Corpus Christi, Texas; Southern California and Japan. While in the marines he played one of the corp baseball team. On April 16, 1966, he married Jacquelyn Black in Odessa, Texas. In 1967 they moved to Dallas, Texas where he worked for LTV which merged into Lockheed-Martin. He retired from Lockheed-Martin in the early to mid 1990’s. Fred continued his love of baseball by being a faithful Texas Ranger fan and finally seeing them make it to world series play. Fred was an excellent golfer with a 10 handicap and had the good fortune to make two “hole-in-one” during his play. He and his wife of 46 years, Jackie, enjoyed traveling throughout the U.S. where he played many courses, while she “antiqued”. They both loved the beach and water-lake or ocean. They enjoyed fishing, playing cards and cooking with their many friends, both new and long-term. Fred was a music lover for all varieties from Janis Joplin to Dolly Parton to opera. His final music choices being Nora Jones and Diana Crall. Fred was a very loving and kind hearted man who provided loving homes to many cats and dogs throughout his life. He was a true friend to many and will be missed by all. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, TX 75243. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimers’ Association.
