Freddie William Figge's Obituary
Lt. Col. Freddie W. Figge. Age 80, of Dallas, Texas passed away May 18, 2015. He was born July 19, 1934 in Wheaton, Kansas, the son of the late Mr. Fred W. Figge and the late Mrs. Lorna Teske Figge. Lt. Col. Figge was a graduate of Kansas State University and received his Masters degree from Central Michigan University. He was a twenty¬eight year veteran of the United States Air Force. Twenty of these years he flew as an Air Force Navigator accumulating over 12,000 flying hours and visiting 106 countries around the world. He had sixteen different assignments including two years in a rescue squadron in Goose Bay Labrador and a year as Commander of a remote Air Force Base in eastern Turkey near the Syrian and Iranian borders. However, his most interesting assignment was with the Special Air Missions Wing at Andrews Air Force Base, Washington DC. There he was a crewmember on aircraft flying the President of the United States, (Air Force One), the Vice President, Cabinet members and other U.S. and foreign dignitaries worldwide. In the early seventies he was on a crew dedicated to flying Dr. Henry Kissinger on the Doctor’s covert Vietnam peace negotiation missions, and, was in Hanoi, North Vietnam when the peace treaty was finalized. He then joined SimuFlite, a company that trains corporation pilots, as an instructor in International Flight Procedures. He is survived by his wife Arletta Toothaker Figge; son Bryan Figge and daughter-in-law Sheri; son Kevin Figge and daughter-in-law Renee; son Alan Figge and daughter-in-law Jennifer; and daughter Kimberly Figge Dicken and son-in-law Chris. He is also survived by thirteen grandchildren and two great grandchildren, two brothers Dale and Myron Figge and one sister Judy Figge Cutright. Freddie is preceded in death by his mother Lorna Figge; his father Fred Figge Jr.; a sister Shirley Figge, a brother Lyle Figge; grandson Scott Figge; sister-in-law Karen Figge; brother-in-law Dean Cutright and sister-in law Karla Kay Kneebone. Funeral Services will be conducted Friday, May 22, at 9:30a.m. at Restland Funeral Home in the Wildwood Chapel, Pastor Charley Hellmuth officiating. Serving as pallbearers are six of his grandchildren Chris Figge, Kyle Figge, Preston Figge, Zach Dicken, Nathan Figge and Matthew Dicken. Interment Services will be conducted at 11 :30a.m. at the Dallas/Fort Worth National Cemetary with full military honors. The family will receive friends Thursday May 21, 2015 from 6:00p.m. to 8:00p.m. at the Restland Funeral Home Dallas, Texas. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, TX 75243.
