Freddie Francis Talkington Pierson's Obituary
Freddie Francis (Talkington) Pierson, beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and friend, Freddie went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, July 3, 2024, after struggling with Parkinson's Syndrome.
Freddie was born on April 28, 1939, in Dallas, Texas. As a child, she was baptized in her faith as a member of the Junius Heights Baptist Church, and she remained a strong woman of faith until she was called home.
She graduated with honors from Crozier Tech High School in downtown Dallas in 1957 where she studied shorthand and administrative office skills. While attending high school, she worked at the Medical Arts Building running the elevator. She then moved on to the downtown Dallas Neiman Marcus Department Store and worked for the international shoe buyer which inspired her love of shoes! She would ride the streetcar to school, have lunch at the counter at H.L. Green Drug Store, and walk to work at Neiman's (every single day).
Freddie was employed as a secretary at Texas Oklahoma Express, Sun Oil Company and as an executive secretary at Royal Globe Insurance Company, retiring after 26 years. Unable to sit idle for very long, she was recruited by Smith Protective Services and retired again after another 10 years.
At the age 50, she decided to go to college and successfully completed the Management Program at Eastfield College with a 4.0 GPA.
Freddie met Bruce (Rickey) Pierson at a friend's home on Victor Street and married on February 4, 1958, in Dallas, Texas. They were blessed with a son, Rocky Lee and two years later a daughter, Leslie Jane.
Freddie loved music and at the young age of 7 learned to play the accordion which weighed more than she did. She taught herself to play the piano, organ, and guitar. She served as pianist/organist at Orchard Hill Missionary Baptist Church alongside her husband, Bruce, who was the Song Leader. She also taught Sunday School using the old flannel graph boards. Her success in life was self-made. If you knew Freddie, you knew she was cold natured, and her love of Crocheting spread across her lap gave her warmth. She made sure every member of her family received an afghan. She was also a lover of fishing taking all her grandchildren to Chandler's Landing on many occasions. Her love of Christmas fostered her collection of over 500 Santa Clause ornaments.
As a 23-year member of the Elks Lodge (Plano/Richardson and Mesquite) she volunteered for many community service events. She has also held the position of Chaplain at the Mesquite Elks Lodge.
Freddie was fiercely passionate about her family and was the glue that kept them close. She was a planner and organizer, and her hospitality was renowned hosting MANY family and friend gatherings. Her most important role was being "Grandmother/Grandmudder" to 5 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren never missing their school programs, recitals, and sporting events. Sometimes she would be at one, Britt at another and Leslie at the third.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Raymon Clamon and Flora Jane Talkington, sisters, Billie Faye, Mackie Helen, former husband, Bruce (Rickey) Pierson, and son-in-law, Jay Britt Johnson. Freddie is survived by her sister, Nancy Talkington Fick, son, Rocky Lee Pierson and wife, Deanna; daughter, Leslie Jane Johnson, grandchildren, Ashley Jean Pierson, Paige Lee Pierson and husband, Michael Ervin, grandsons, Jacob Blair and wife, Courtney Elizabeth Johnson, Jay Bodie Johnson, Jackson Britt Johnson and great grandchildren, Jett Britt Johnson, Jones Anthony Johnson and Charleigh Rae Ervin, nephews, Scottie Earl and wife, Donna Brown, William Joseph (BJ) and wife, Laura Fick, Paul Lee Fick, niece, Linda Kay and husband, Rick McFarland, great nephews, great nieces and a host of friends.
