Frederic Delaskie Freeman's Obituary
Frederic Freeman was born on November 1, 1922 and passed away on September 20, 2014 of pulmonary fibrosis. He is preceded in death by his parents Fred D Freeman Sr., Corinne Robertson Freeman, and wife of 63 years, Barbara. Frederic is survived by his daughters, Kathryn Lee Freeeman and Barbara Anne and Mike Tlanda; three grandsons, Chris, Scott, and Mark Tlanda. Fred graduated from Highland Park High school in 1940, and studied at North Texas Agricultural College until February 1943, leaving for the Army Air Corps Frederic was the pilot in Europe with the 15th Troop Carrier Sqdn., 61st TC Group flying in supplies, paratroopers, gliders, and evacuating wounded. After WW II, Fred flew a C-47 to a base in Natal, Brazil in order to fly battle weary troops home. He was awarded the Air Medal, Oak Leaf cluster, and 4 Battle Stars. Recalled in 1951 to fly C-46, and C119’s during the Korean War. Fred spent 35 years with Chance Vought, LTV, now Lockheed Martin, as a Quality Engineer working on F7U-3, F8U-1,-2, and regulus F8U-3Exp. He then moved to the Missiles Division 1961 as Lead QE, to help build, test, and launch the SCOUT rocket booster under NASA contract. After helping launch over 100 research and military payloads into orbit for NASA and the European Space agencies, he retired as Senior Quality Project engineer. After retirement, Fred continued to paint, sketch, became a master wood carver, and wrote 3 books describing growing up in the long gone 1920-1940 era of horse drawn milk and ice wagons, no air conditioning, no TV, but Saturday afternoon Movies for kids having 10 cents. Life was blessed with a good religious base, much adventure, and many wonderful people and friends at every stage of life, and even a few golfers. The service for Fred will be held at The Wildwood Chapel in Restland Funeral Home on Saturday, September 27, 2014 at 3:00 pm. The visitiation will be Friday, September 26, 2014 from 6:00-8:00PM at Restland Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation, or a charity of your choice.
