Furman Anthony Abernethy's Obituary
Honoring
The Well Lived Life of
Furman Anthony Abernethy
January 27, 1944 – March 10, 2025
Anthony gracefully exited this life at his home in Dallas, Texas, on Monday, March 10th, 2025. Surrounded by his loving family and devoted aide, he came face to face with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. A Scottish-born warrior, he fought the good fight, finished the race, and remained faithful through it all.
Tony’s life was a testament to the power of love, integrity, and selflessness. Born in Fairfield, Alabama, he was the epitome of a true southern gentleman. He cherished his wife, Brenda, who was not only his partner in life but also his adored soulmate. He always said that had he not met her, he never would have married. His love for her was evident in everything he did, and she considered it her pleasure to care for him, especially over the past seventeen years in his time of need, just as he had always cared for her.
A strong and steady presence, Tony was a protector and provider for his family, never wavering in his commitment to them. He led by example, living out his personal relationship with the Lord and the values He taught. He never complained, never spoke unkindly, and always put others before himself. Even after his stroke, when words were difficult, his first request was for his Bible—demonstrating the deep and abiding faith that guided his adult life.
He was an accomplished businessman having achieved much success in the financial services industry, followed by local business ownership. His greatest asset, however, was the leadership he provided to his family, friends, and the caregivers who crossed his path. Tony had such a savvy business mind and a unique ability to connect with people. He was an avid reader and a wealth of knowledge, yet also a humble and gifted listener. Those who came for visits would leave commenting on the comfort and guidance they had gained through the time they spent with him. He was stoic in his suffering, never focused on himself, but always seeking to uplift and encourage others.
His legacy is one of faith, kindness, and selfless devotion—a pillar of strength to all who knew him.
Anthony is survived by his beloved wife, Brenda; his son, Bentley Abernethy (Amy); his daughter, Shannan Lea Humphries; his brother, Henry Abernethy (Donna); godson, Bryan Abernethy; sister Charlotte Winset (Rob); brother-in-law, Herb Stacy, and many close friends who cherished him deeply. He is preceded in death by his parents, Furman Hay Abernethy and Mary Elizabeth Abernethy, and sister-in-law, Paula Stacy.
In keeping with his wishes and unique ability to cultivate intimate relationships, a private service will be held in his honor, at his home, with those most dear to his heart. Invitations to follow.
