GARLAND HUGHEY “HUGH” HARVARD
Hugh was born in Palmer, Texas, on November 15, 1929. His parents were George Garland Harvard and Catherine Hughey Harvard. While growing up in Palmer, he worked in various businesses for his grandfather. He attended Palmer High School and graduated Valedictorian in the class of 1946. Upon graduation at age 16, he began his career at Atlantic Richfield in the mail room.
He served honorably in the United States Army from 1951–1953 and was promoted to Tech Sergeant. Upon leaving, he joined the Army Reserves. After his active service Hugh resumed his career at Atlantic Richfield. He married and had a daughter, Linda Christine Harvard Thorsen.
He also attended SMU night school and graduated with a degree in Economics. With his degree he was promoted to programmer in computer systems at Atlantic Richfield. He became Project Manager and oversaw the computer system integration of companies acquired by Atlantic Richfield (ARCO). His title was Director of Information Systems, Oil and Gas Division, before his retirement in the 1970’s.
After retirement from ARCO, he founded the Harvard Consulting Company and worked with ARCO in Alaska, Walmart, Heinz, the University of Virginia and a number of other companies until he retired in 2001 and remarried.
Hugh Harvard passed away on July 25, 2024. He is preceded in death by his parents, his daughter, Linda Christine Harvard Thorsen and his brother, Paul Odom Harvard.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Lanier, his sister, Marilyn Harvard Ridley, his cousins, three nieces and a nephew.
His family would like to thank his doctors, the staff at Presbyterian Hospital and T Boone Pickens for their loving care.
