Garnett Harrison Walker's Obituary
WALKER, GARNETT HARRISON died on November 29, 2013 in Lewisville, Texas. Garnett was born in Danville, Virginia to Howard Walker and Virginia Ingram. He attended VA. Tech, served in the U.S. Army and earned a BS in Business Administration from Averett College. He worked for Good Year Tire Co. for eleven years and then began a forty year career with H&R Block franchises in both Virginia and Texas. With his intelligence, ingenuity, intuitiveness and integrity, he advanced from entry level tax preparer to COO and President of the Texas Franchise. The highlight of his career was his personal and professional relationship with Pat Merriman. Among Garnett’s many talents must be included his love of art, writing prose and poetry. He was inspirational! Garnett loved people and loved to entertain. He had the gift for pairing fine wines with gourmet foods and wanted to share this knowledge with those he called “Friend”. His latest passion was finding the best bourbon distilled. Some would say he succeeded. And, oh how he loved Las Vegas! Garnett married the love of his life and best friend (his words), Emilia. During their 30 year marriage, Garnett gave Emilia the world (her words)! In addition to Emilia, Garnett, also known as Paw Paw, is survived by his son, Kevin Scott Walker; his daughter, Kimberly and husband, Walter Prien, and his precious grandchild, Harrison, as well as his sister, Opal Foster, and her family, Garnett was known for his compassion and generosity. Although he filled many needs, he and Emilia made regular donations to The Wounded Warriors Project, Ride 2 Recovery, The Salvation Army, DFW Cocker Rescue and North Texas Food Bank. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the charity of your choice in Garnett’s memory. Garnett had a quick wit and dry sense of humor. It was impossible to be in Garnett’s presence without being totally entertained. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Monday, Dec. 2, 2013 at Restland Funeral Home. Service will be held Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2013 at 12:00 PM at Restland Memorial Chapel.
