Erwin, Garnette Eva Miller, age 99, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend died peacefully at her home surrounded by her family on March 20, 2024.
Garnette was born January 8, 1925 to T. L. Miller and Flora Theis Miller in Big Lake, TX where her grandfather, Rudolph Theis was the mayor. She attended High School at Odessa High School where she played clarinet in the marching band, won a regional typing contest, took piano lessons and was President of the National Honor Society which allowed her to tour the U.S. and Canada.

During the War, she worked for the 8th Transportation Group in Dallas as a secretary for Lieutenants and Colonels. At this time, she started writing letters with her future husband, James Erwin who was serving in the Army overseas. They got married in 1945 after the war ended. They lived in Dallas and had 3 daughters.
Her interests included playing the piano, tennis, card games, dominoes, watching movies, reading books, and having special prayer and devotion time with the Lord. She loved quoting the many chapters and verses in the Bible she had memorized. Garnette had a gift of service to others and demonstrated it through her involvement and teaching at Scofield Memorial Church, Nobility Baptist Church, Harbor Baptist Church, First Baptist Church of Richardson and Cornerstone Family Church.
Garnette will be remembered fondly as “Gran”, a role she truly embraced. Gran was a dedicated mother to her 3 daughters, 4 grandchildren who she helped raise, and her 9 great-grandchildren. Her spirit of service, kindness, patience, and unconditional love was limitless.
