Garvis Spain's Obituary
SPAIN, GARVIS Born August 4, 1918 to Waldo and Ola Tyner Spain in Farmersville, TX and passed away June 5, 2008 in Plano, TX. He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Jason Spain. He served as Sergeant in the 2137th United States Army Air Corps in World War II. He received his BA and MBA from SMU. On September 3, 1950, he married Jeanne Moss and moved to Midland, TX and worked in the oil fields until moving to Plano in 1952. Mr. Spain helped organize the first Collin County Child Welfare Board, was a licensed Realtor and Appraiser, and former President of the Collin County Board of Realtors. He was an Election Judge in Plano for many years. After retirement, he became a dedicated city volunteer and was recently recognized by the City of Plano for his numerous years of service. He is survived by his devoted wife, Jeanne Spain ‘ Plano, Texas; two daughters, Sarita Carden (husband, Paul Carden) ‘ Los Angeles, California and Susan Spain (fianc’, Tony Fertitta) ‘ Fort Worth, Texas; nephews, Rodney Spain ‘ Farmersville, Texas and Colter Moss ‘ Jacksonville, Florida; sister-in-law, Donna Van Winkle (husband, Lester Van Winkle) ‘ Farmersville, Texas; brother-in-law, Addison Moss ‘ Farmersville, Texas; and his beloved Jack Russell Terrier, Tuffy. Visitation will be 4:00 ‘ 6:00 PM, Sunday, June 8, 2008 at Restland Funeral Home. Service will be held 10:00 AM, Monday, June 9, 2008 at Restland Memorial Chapel.
