Gary Ben Kindred's Obituary
Kindred, Gary Ben ~ Born the 2nd of September 1952, passed away the 28th of January 2011. Gary was the son of Guy Ben and Miriam Kindred from Frisco, TX. He graduated from Plainview High School in Plainview, TX in 1972. While in high school, he boxed for the Golden Gloves winning the New Mexico State Golden Glove Championship as a middleweight in 1971. After high school, he traveled the professional tennis circuit in South America for two years. Upon his return to Dallas, he taught at several tennis clubs in town and coached several junior players to national rankings. He accepted a position as the tennis pro at Indian Springs Country Club in Broken Arrow, OK where he taught tennis lessons and ran the pro shop. A true athlete, he next took up golf and became the assistant golf pro at Heritage Ranch in Fairview, TX before moving to Borrego Springs, CA as the assistant golf pro at the country club there. Predeceased by twin brother, Byron Dennis Kindred, brother Guy Stephen Kindred, father Guy Ben Kindred and mother Willie Belk. Survived by mother, Miriam Kindred, his daughter Sara, who was the love of his life, sisters Valli J. Kindred and Alison Harrington, Sara’s mother, Mary Kindred, and lifelong friend, Nick Grant of San Antonio. The family wishes to acknowledge their gratitude to Red Castaneda, Sarah Beard and Torsha Marshall, all of Compassionate Hands, for the care, compassion and love they showed to Gary throughout his illness. The family will have a remembrance hour Monday evening from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.at Restland Funeral Home. Services will be Tuesday, February 1, 2011 at 12:30 p.m. in Memorial Chapel at Restland with burial in Whispering Waters family plot. The family asks in lieu of flowers that donations be made to Pancreatic Research, Southwestern Medical Foundation, 5323 Harry Hines Blvd., Dallas, TX 75390-9002 or Compassionate Hands, 6500 North Beltline Rd. #180, Irving, TX 75013.
