Gary M. Steinmetz's Obituary
Gary M Steinmetz, age 74, of Euless, Texas, passed away on July 7, 2019. He was born February 18, 1945 in Fort Worth, Texas to Reuben and Eva (Jackson) Steinmetz. He is survived by his children, Margie Goerlich of Flower Mound, Texas, Steve Steinmetz and wife Kristina of Allen, Texas, grandchildren, Dylan Goerlich, Haley Goerlich and Cody Goerlich, all of Flower Mound, Texas and Michael Steinmetz of Allen, Texas. Gary is preceded in death by his parents, Reuben and Eva Jackson Steinmetz and brother Benny Wayne Steinmetz. He was proud to be a member of the Amalgamated Meat Cutter’s of America union throughout his career as a butcher and meat market manager. He started working at the tender age of 13 in a neighborhood meat market and made it his life’s trade – continuing work as a meat cutter while working for the Sheraton hotel in downtown Dallas and then a on to Tom Thumb grocery chain. He stayed in the grocery business his entire career and held numerous grocery management positions where his retail savvy, excellent customer-service skills and stellar sales won him many awards. He was forced into early retirement more than a decade ago as the demand for skilled meat cutters was moved away from the retail front. As a hobby, he followed the sport of thoroughbred horseracing. He had an immense respect for the horses, trainers and jockeys. Whenever he got a chance, he would drive to Louisiana Downs for a day trip to marvel at the sheer strength and discipline of the horses. His proudest role in life was that of being a grandpa. He loved each one of his grandchildren and appreciated the unique qualities that each had to offer. We will sorely miss his pranks, his wonderful sense of humor, and be reminded of his selflessness as we carry on his legacy. A celebration of his life will be held at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, August 3, 2019 at Restland Funeral Home – Wildwood Chapel, in Dallas, Texas. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his honor to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital – www.stjude.org or to the charity of your choice.
