Gaylan Lee Wooldridge's Obituary
Wooldridge, Gaylan Lee 73, of Plano, TX, passed away on December 15, 2013, with his wife by his side. Gaylan was born in Dallas, TX on January 25, 1940, to Wayman Oran and Hazel Scarborough Wooldridge. He attended Lewisville High School, then served in the United States Navy from 1958-1961 as an Airman Apprentice. After his service, he attended the University of North Texas where he graduated with a degree in Business. A passionate outdoorsman, many of his years were spent on the lake as a well-known fishing guide. He loved to catch Largemouth Bass and landed his largest one at 14.53 pounds. All of his friends would agree he was a regular ‘John Wayne’, larger than life, thinking quickly and speaking slowly, especially when dressed up in his cowboy gear while participating in reenactments and shooting competitions with his bride, Sharon, in the Single Action Shooting Society. Besides fishing and shooting, Gaylan loved golf and his dogs and took great pride in his family and grandchildren. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 22 years, Sharon Wooldridge of Plano, Texas; sister, Deloris Corder and husband, Doug of Garland, TX; brother, Dr. Doug Wooldridge and wife, Julia of Boston, MA. Gaylan is also survived by his three children, Galyn Wooldridge Woerner and husband, Cord of Marble Falls, TX; Lance Wooldridge and wife, Amy of Franklin, TN; and Jason Wooldridge of Eldorado, AR.; daughter-in-law, Joy Annette Wooldridge of Garland, TX; five grandchildren, Brenda Wooldridge McCraney and husband, Will McCraney of Garland, TX; Courtney Wooldridge of Garland, TX; Madeline Grace, Jesse Love and Milaya Faith Wooldridge of Franklin, TN; and numerous nieces and nephews. Gaylan is preceded in death by his parents and his oldest son, Mike Wooldridge. The family will receive visitors on Thursday, December 19, 2013 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Restland Funeral Home. Service with military honors will be held on at noon on Friday, December 20, 2013 at Restland Memorial Chapel, with burial to follow. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.
