Gayle Louise Rumbeck's Obituary
Gayle Louise Rumbeck passed away peacefully at the age of 69 on Monday, July 27, 2020 after a short, 5 week battle with cancer. She was born April 30, 1951 in Malden, Massachusetts to David Hume and Tommie (McNeal) Hume. Gayle is preceded in death by her husband of 32 years, David Rumbeck, and both of her parents. She worked in Human Resources Management for AT&T for more than 30 years and served as a Nanny for her great-nephew and niece for 16 years.
She is survived by her sister Linda Collins and husband Dean of Garland, her niece Jamie Moore and husband, David of Richardson, her nephews, Jonathan Collins and fiancee, Colleen McGee of Dallas, Joshua Collins and wife Eileen of Kings Park, NY, Jason Collins and wife Toni of Spring, great-nephews Sam Moore and Colby Collins, great nieces Rachel Moore and Riley Collins.
Gayle, a.k.a., “Pogo and Gaga” lived life to the fullest and brought joy and laughter to everyone who knew her. She was a devoted Christian woman who put her love for Christ before all else and was a spiritual mentor through her devout faith. She was a true light to her family and countless friends.
She was a long time, active member of First Presbyterian Church Mesquite who transferred her membership to First United Methodist Church Richardson to attend church services with her family. During her time at First Presbyterian, she taught children’s church, Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. She participated in Bible Study Fellowship and served as a leader for several years. She worked part-time at Friends Place, a local non-profit organization serving members of the community who suffered with dementia and the early onset of Alzheimers. She was loved by the members and staff and treasured her time there.
She was actively involved in the Oaks at Firewheel Home Owners Association and made countless friends with her neighbors by serving as the social chair for many years.
She loved spending time with family and friends but her greatest joy was watching her great-niece and nephew on the sporting field. She never missed a football game, baseball game or soccer match; rain, hail, sleet or snow. She was the ‘Community Gaga’ to so many kids and families and loved them all as if they were her own. She will be missed but all who knew her find great comfort in knowing she is now walking streets of gold and is with her maker.
A funeral service is planned for Tuesday, August 18 at 11 am at First United Methodist Church Richardson but due to COVID-19, immediate family only. Gayle’s final resting place will be at Restland Cemetery in Roxton, Texas at 2:30 pm, officiated by longtime family friend, Jim Barnett.
In lieu of flowers, family suggest donations be made to: American Cancer Society and or the SPCA.
