Gene Edwin Nix Sr.'s Obituary
Gene E. Nix Sr., age 85, was born in Henderson, TX on June 25, 1936, and passed from this life on June 06, 2022, 19 days prior to his 86th birthday.
Gene was a United States Naval Veteran during Peace time Operations beginning April 25, 1955 serving abroad the U.S.S. Frank Knox where he was decorated The China Service Medal, and (first level) Good Conduct Award. Gene served as their radio system operator along with serving as the ship's video projectionist when needed. Gene’s last duty assignment and command was aboard the U.S.S. Wiseman fulfilling his active service obligation on April 15,1959 upon which he was recommended for re-enlistment. Rather than receiving an honorable discharge, Gene chose to transfer his status to that of Active Reserve and continued his service until he was fully discharged in 1963.
Gene began his career as a television repairman in the early 1950’s for Big D Television & repair working for his brother Cecil in those days. It was during that time he met Carol Starling whose father was a customer of Big D Television. Carol, taking a liking to Gene, would insist on sending him to the house when the television needed repair. Sometimes and most often, Carol made sure that the television was always on the fritz by turning the horizontal and vertical controls in the back of the television when her daddy wasn’t looking and therefore, causing her daddy to send Gene back out to the house to come and fix it.
It was not long afterwards that the two started dating and eventually became husband and wife on July 15,1955.
Gene left Big D afterwards and began a long-standing career with Central Electric Service and spent most of it there as a commercial electrician traveling across the state and wherever he was needed. He along with his wife Carol, were diehard Dallas Cowboys & Texas Ranger fans; proudly displaying that pride along the back porch where they lived. Upon retirement, Gene stayed busy by occasionally helping neighbors with their lawns, planting a garden or with projects that Carol had for him. Wherever he could. He spent his time fishing and camping all the while enjoying family & friends, and the occasional gatherings they had on the back porch at home.
Gene is survived by sister, Lexi Liles of Dallas, TX. Son Gary Nix of Crandall, TX.
Daughter-in-laws, Janis Nix of Crandall and Sandra Nix of Rowlett. Gene had 6 grandchildren.
