Mrs. Genevieve Bates' Obituary
BATES, GENEVIEVE “CHARGOIS”, was born on September 23, 1944 in Kaplan, LA to the parentage of the late Alton Chargois and Marie “Trahan” Chargois. Gene’s parents moved to Beaumont while she was still an infant. She attended Catholic schools in Beaumont thru the ninth grade and graduated from Hebert High School in 1962. She attended Lamar University and received her Nursing Degree from St. Mary’s School of nursing located in Galveston, TX in 1966. Her illustrious career in Nursing began in Galveston at St. Mary’s Hospital and later at the Shrine Burn Institute. In 1967, she married Samuel Bates and their 40 year union was blessed with one child, Rebecca Jeanine Bates. In 1973, Gene and Becky followed Sam to Dallas, TX. She held many positions in nursing at various Dallas area hospitals before becoming active in Home Health Nursing. Gene worked longer than expected. She was diagnosed with Kidney failure in 1999 and started dialysis but never let it interrupt her active life and love for traveling. She organized and become President of the Dallas/Ft. Worth Chapter of American Association of Kidney Patients (AAKP), a national support group for Kidney Patients. Gene leaves to cherish the memories of her life and love, her devoted husband Samuel Bates; daughter, Rebecca Bates; mother, Marie Chargios; sister, Annie Dorsey and a host of other relatives and friends. Service will be at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, October 19, 2007 at St. Michael Catholic Church; 950 Trails Parkway; Garland,TX 75043. Interment to follow at Calvary Hill Cemetery.
