George Louis Chiagouris' Obituary
The family of George Louis Chiagouris is saddened to announce his passing on September 26, 2020 at the age of 88.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 50 years, Connie (n?e Dremissi), son Steven (Amanda), grandchildren whom he adored, Andrew, and Katie, sister Tina (Gus) Karres, sisters-in-law Tula Andrews and Helen Chiagouris; niece Kathy (Dave) Heiser, nephews Louis Chiagouris, Andrew Karres, and Ellia (Bianca) Karres, as well as many cousins in Chicago, Canada and Greece. He was preceded in death by his parents Louis George and Ekaterini, and beloved brother Peter.
George was born in Loukas, Arcadia, Greece where his family survived WWII. They immigrated to the US in 1948 to the south side of Chicago, where he completed his secondary education. After a tour of duty in the armed services he pursued his college education receiving his Bachelors of Science Degree in Civil Engineering.
George was very involved at St. John the Baptist Greek Orthodox church in Des Plaines, IL, repeatedly serving on the parish council and resurrecting the Oratorical Festival. As chairman of the Vision 2000 committee, he worked with the Des Plaines community to protect the church from massive flooding in 2000. He was an active member of AHEPA, Society Louka, and International Pan Arcadian Society. Always anxious to spread knowledge, George wrote many articles and was known to give speeches whether at national or district conventions or a family dinner! He was loved by all.
Services for George will be held at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Dallas, TX on September 30. Visitation will be at 930 with funeral service at 10:00am. Burial service immediately following at Restland Cemetery. For those unable to attend, the services will be webcast at www.holytrinitydallas.org/worship-webcast.
