Dr. George Brown Davis' Obituary
George Brown Davis, long time Dallas resident, a devoted servant of the Lord, loving husband, Dad and Papa, went home to be with his Savior on December 18, 2024 at the age of 87.
Born on October 13, 1937 in Yazoo City, MS, Dr. Davis dedicated his life to ministry and the service of others. He answered God’s call while attending Mississippi College and served as a Christian minister for over 46 years, touching countless lives through his preaching, teaching, and pastoral care. His unwavering faith and compassionate spirit were a source of inspiration to all who knew him.
George was blessed with a remarkable 62-year marriage to his beloved wife, Jean. Together, they built a legacy of love, faith, and family. Their union was a testament to their deep devotion to each other and their shared commitment to Christ.
He is survived by his wife, Jean Davis, and their two children: George (Rose) Davis, and Katherine (David) Green, as well as 5 grandsons: Paul (Amy) Davis, John Davis, Mark (Peyton) Davis, Garrett (Emilie) Green, and Landon Green. He was preceded in death by his parents Arthur and Moselle Davis, and one brother Arthur Davis and wife JoAnn.
George had a passion for God’s Word, for teaching it to others, and showing the love of Christ to scores of people through his gentle and caring demeanor. In addition to serving as an interim pastor in many churches throughout the Metroplex, he was the Vice-President of Academic Affairs at Criswell College, and finished his vocational ministry spending a decade leading the Pastoral Care Ministries of First Baptist Dallas, where he and his family attended many years.
He found joy in spending time with family, studying Scripture, and running model trains and watching the Dallas Cowboys with his grandsons. He leaves behind a legacy of faith, love, and unwavering dedication to the Lord.
A celebration of George’s life will be held on Friday, December 27th, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at Restland Funeral Home's Memorial Chapel in Dallas, with visitation starting an hour prior, at 1:00 p.m. Friends and family are invited to gather for a time of remembrance and worship. Burial will follow at 3:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in his memory to First Baptist Dallas Building Fund or Criswell College.
