George Diepstra's Obituary
George Diepstra passed away on April 25, 2021 in Dallas, Texas. He was born on March 12, 1926 to Henry Diepstra and Ester Klang who immigrated from Holland and Sweden, respectively.
He grew up in Chicago and after graduating from High School he entered the Army and fought in the Pacific theater during World War II. Upon returning home he used his electronics training to pursue a career in telecommunications. He married Vera Siss on Christmas day in 1948. They moved to Dallas and he worked for Southwestern Bell and raised his family, which included his son George Ronald and daughter Diane.
George had many interests and hobbies. He was an accomplished musician who played the accordion and organ. For many years, he was an accordion teacher and performer. George and his wife learned to square dance and became active members in a local square dance club. He was also a skilled craftsman who regularly volunteered his skills to help others in need. But, the primary focus of George’s life was his love and devotion to his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. In that regard, he was a very active member in several churches over the years.
He was preceded in death by his father, Henry Diepstra, his mother Ester Klang, and his younger sister Joanne. Then in 2010, his beloved wife Vera passed away.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law George R. and Eileen Diepstra, his daughter and son-in-law Diane and Steve Johnson, his three granddaughters Karen Diepstra, Katie Elizondo and Andrea Hanson, as well as his second wife, Barbara Bellomy.
Family will receive friends on Friday, April 30th from 12:30-1:30 p.m. at Restland Funeral Home for a viewing, followed by a graveside service at 2:00 p.m.
