George Bruce Gibson's Obituary
GIBSON, GEORGE BRUCE age 72, passed away Tuesday, March 8, 2011, surrounded by his family and in the thoughts and prayers of his friends. George was born January 26, 1939, in Oklahoma City, OK, to George Earl Gibson and Corinne Whitaker Gibson. Raised in Dallas, TX, he graduated from Hillcrest High School in 1957 and earned a baseball scholarship to Texas Tech University where he was a member of Phi Delta Theta, Phi Kappa Phi, Tau Beta Pi, Double T Association, a distinguished R.O.T. C. cadet, and Commandant of the Corps. He graduated cum laude with a B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering and continued his education by receiving a Master of Science degree from Oklahoma State University. George fulfilled his commission in the U.S. Army at Fort Bliss in El Paso, TX, where he taught thermodynamics and solid propellants for the Hercules air defense missile. It was while he was stationed at Fort Bliss that he developed his lifelong passion for the game of golf. George was an accomplished residential real estate development professional throughout North Texas. He was associated with General Portland, Devlan Development Group, and the Tower Group in executive capacities before forming Big Horn Development Company. George will be remembered for his intelligence, work ethic, honesty and loyalty but most of all because he was simply a good person and a true friend. George was preceded in death by his parents, sister Gloria Faye Odom and baby granddaughter Julia Elaine Gibson. He is survived by daughter Kayleen Elaine Lambie and husband Andrew; son Christian Bruce Gibson and wife Jennifer; son Gary Earl Gibson and wife Leslie, all of Houston, TX. He was the proud grandfather of John Christian, Lauren Elizabeth, Katherine Grace and newborn Elizabeth Paige. George is also survived by his sister Diana Merrill and husband Kent and his loving nieces and nephew Laura Elizabeth Von Loh, Dr. Allison Corinne Merrill-Baker, Kent Gibson Merrill and their respective families. Visitation is Friday, March 11, 2011, from 6-8 p.m. at Restland Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held Saturday, March 12, 2011, at 12:30 p.m. in Memorial Chapel at Restland. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
