George Ronald Hatfield's Obituary
HATFIELD, GEORGE RONALD entered Heaven on October 26th, 2013 after a long illness. George was born on July 3, 1936 in Chicago, Illinois to George Harvey and Maxine Hatfield. The family moved to Houston in 1949. In 1959 after a move to Dallas, Hatfield and Co., Inc. was founded in the Industrial Sales business. When George Sr. passed away in 1976, George Ronald set high goals for “Hatco”. Today the company has 98 faithful employee/associates in thirteen branch offices with their corporate headquarters located in Rockwall. George’s son Greg is now President and “Hatco” is in capable hands. George was a devout Christian and a member of Lakepointe Church in Rockwall. George was very generous, and his acts of generosity and charity were many. Always looking for new challenges, he earned his pilot’s license at age fifty-seven. George loved racing Lightning Class sailboats and was a Charter member of Rush Creek Yacht Club. In 1984, he was elected Commodore of Rush Creek. In 1985, he became President of the International Lightning Class. He was a 32nd degree Mason, and a member of Hillcrest Lodge in Dallas and East Trinity Lodge in Rockwall. Just last month, he was presented with a 50 year Masonic pin at East Trinity. George was also an Honorary KCCH Scottish Rite member and a Shriner. In 1992, George decided to try his hand at politics and was elected to the Rockwall City Council. He served for three years and then ran for Mayor and was elected in 1995. He was unopposed when he ran for reelection the following term. After being term limited out in 1999, he became a member of the Rockwall Economic and Development Council, which created the successful Industrial Complex we see growing today. George enjoyed golf, guns, poker and was a long time member of the Dallas Athletic Club. He was also a lover of opera and held season tickets to the Dallas Opera for many years. George is preceded in death by his parents and his favorite Uncle Donald Hatfield. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Claudette; children, George Todd Hatfield and wife, Lori, John Gregory Hatfield and wife, Maggie, Susan Hatfield Wheelis and husband, Tom; sister, Gloria Smith and her husband, Gerry; grandchildren, Melinda Hatfield, Jeremy Hatfield, Cindy Hatfield, Madison Hatfield, Macy Hatfield, Michaela Hatfield, Ryan Wheelis, Reed Wheelis; and great grandson, Alistar Hatfield. The funeral will take place at Lakepointe Church on Thursday October 31 at 11:00 AM. Following the funeral, there will be a Celebration of Life reception in the foyer. The immediate family will accompany his remains for a private burial following the funeral and celebration reception. In lieu of flowers, the family requests you make a donation in his name to the charity of your choice
