George Eddie Hyde's Obituary
George Eddie Hyde Jr died peacefully at the age of 97, in his home surrounded by family on Memorial Day, 29 May 2023. George was born in Orrick, Missouri on 16 July 1925, the fifth of seven children. He graduated from Galena High School in May of 1943 and enlisted in the Army Air Force in August of 1943. He served as a B24 tail gunner. During the bombing of a German submarine manufacturing site his aircraft suffered catastrophic damage from flak and crashed landed in Sweden.
After the war he attended the University of Missouri where he met his bride to be Elizabeth “Betty” Perdue. He graduated from the School of Business, married Betty and began a career as a manufacturer’s representative. Most of his career was spent in the Dallas area as a partner in the firm of Watkins, O’Malley and Hyde. He served as President of the Dallas-Fort Worth Housewares Club. He was a member of the John L. DeGrazier Masonic Lodge and Hella Shrine where he served as Top O’Dallas Shrine Club President. He was a weekly volunteer at Scottish Rite for Children in Dallas.
George was a member of the United Methodist Church and one of six founders of Promise House, a shelter for homeless youth and pregnant teens. He volunteered and actively supported Wesley Rankin. He served on various boards of directors of area social service agencies and as a Precinct Judge in North Dallas.
He was preceded in death by his parents George Eddie and Katherine Morelock Hyde, brothers Col. Thomas C. and Phillip Q. Hyde, sisters Ruth Barnes, Mary E. Crimm, Frances E. Whited and grandson George Clinton Chavanne. He is survived by his wife of 72 years Elizabeth “Betty” C. Perdue Hyde, sister Leona McMillan, daughters Laura Ann Stafford and Jan Taylor, sons James David Hyde and James Smith, grandsons, Bryce Taylor and Kyle Smith and many loving nephews, nieces and friends.

An inurnment of George's cremated remains is scheduled for June 30, 2023. A memorial service will be held in his honor on July 22, 2023 at Lover's Lane United Methodist Church at 3:00 p.m.
