George David Neal
Passed into God’s presence on July 18, 2024 at home surrounded by family. Born on May 20, 1933 in Dallas, Texas to A. D. and Ida Pace Neal. David attended Roberts Elementary School, J. L. Long Jr. High and Crozier Tech High School in Dallas before graduating from Southern Methodist University in 1954 with a BBA degree and then entering the United States Air Force as a First Lieutenant. He served in the USAF for three years before returning to SMU to earn a J.D. In 1959, he joined Sun Oil Company in their legal department. He rose to the position of General Counsel before leaving Sun in 1987 to join his former accounting professor from SMU, Lionel Gilly, in private practice. He retired in 1998.
He was a member of the Dallas Bar Association, Texas Bar Association and American Bar Association. As a lifelong Methodist, he served in many volunteer positions within the church including chairman of the board and chairman of the building committee. David also served on the Methodist Hospital Golden Cross board for sixteen years where he was chairman of the board for three years.
David was a strong Christian example for everyone and one of the kindest people you would ever meet. He met his wife, Carolyn, at church before entering the service. Six months before being discharged, they wed and were married for 67 years. They have two children, Janet Miertschin (Mark) and David Patrick Neal (Diane), as well as five grandchildren: Aubry (Andrew), Emma, Molly, Travis and Georgia.
David was a history buff who was an avid crossword puzzler, loved watching old war movies and reading spy novels. He loved eating his wife’s cooking, especially sweets. He played the piano, was actively involved in church athletics as well as Boy Scouts.
David was loved by many and will be missed, but there will be many happy memories to live on and shared in the future. Services will be held on August 13th at 11 am in the Hasley Chapel at St Andrew Methodist Church, 5801 W Plano Parkway, Plano, Tx 75093. The family wishes to express its deep gratitude to his caregivers during his final years. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to The Storehouse Community Center at 1401 Mira Vista Blvd, Plano TX 75093 or Methodist Health System Golden Cross 1441 N Beckley Ave, Dallas Tx 75203.
