George Frederick Pletzer Jr's Obituary
George F. Pletzer, Jr. was born in Dallas on December 17, 1926 to George and Lila Pletzer. He grew up in the Casa Linda neighborhood and graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1944. He was very active in his class reunion committee and never missed a class reunion or their regular lunch gatherings. After graduating, he enlisted and served in the Army, receiving an honorable discharge at the close of WWII. After attending Texas A&M, he went to work for Dr. Pepper, navigated his way into the sales department and found his true calling as a salesman. In 1948, he met Jacqueline Reynolds in Sunday school class at Oak Lawn Methodist, and they were soon tripping the light fantastic together at Lou Ann’s Dance Club. They were married in the living room of Jacquie’s childhood home on South Versailles (where they later lived for many decades) on May 27, 1950. George was a top salesman for King’s Candy Company of Fort Worth for 25 years. He later worked in sales for other companies in Dallas until he founded his own company, SunBan Sunglass Co., which (along with golf) he pursued with vigor until he finally reached a well-deserved retirement (though he never retired from golf). George and Jacquie had one son, Randy, born in 1956. After 57 happy years of marriage, Jacquie passed away in 2007. George then soon met and later married Candace Brown, who became the light of his life and was at his side when he passed away on May 11, 2009. His wife Candace, his son Randy, his sister Betty Burke, and a host of nieces and nephews who always enjoyed spending time with their “Uncle George” survive him. Services will be held on Saturday, May 16th, at 12:30 p.m., at the Memorial Chapel in Restland Funeral Home in Dallas. A visitation will be held on Friday, May 15th, from 6-8 p.m., also at Restland.
