George William Powell Jr's Obituary
George W. Powell, Jr of Carrollton, TX known to many as George, George William, Uncle George, Pawpaw and to a few as “Cochise”, passed away the morning of Wednesday, July 16th, 2025, at the age of 89.
George was born in Letot, TX on December 23rd, 1935, to George and Myrtle Powell. He was a graduate of North Dallas High School in the class of 1955. George married Maxine Howard on September 8th, 1961, and they would have celebrated 64 years this year.
George was a proud veteran and served in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged in 1960. After returning to civilian life, he worked as a brick mason and ran several work crews for the family’s construction business before eventually transitioning to a career in the Oil & Gas industry at OTIS Engineering (aka Halliburton). In the late 80’s he started his own remodeling and custom cabinet business which he retired from to spend more time with his wife, kids and grandkids.
He was a true outdoorsman and LOVED to fish and hunt, but most of all he enjoyed God’s handiwork and taught his family an appreciation of nature and its delicate balance.
George loved to cook but as he and Maxine got older, they appreciated the involvement of lively conversation and good food prepared by others. They could be found on most Saturday mornings, at Bic’s, Pete’s Café or The Dallas Diner.
George is preceded in death by his sister Barbara Pace, father George W. Powell, Sr and his mother Dorothy Myrtle Powell.
George is survived by his wife Maxine Powell, daughter Kathy McVey and her husband Stan, son David Powell and his wife Jody, granddaughter Kayley Kroenke and her husband Carson, grandson Nathan Powell, nephew Richard Pace and his wife Jackie, nephew Russell Pace and his wife Leisl, niece Andrea Lussier and her husband Kevin along with many other close family and friends.
A visitation for George is scheduled for 9am on Wednesday, July 30th at First Baptist Church at The Fields (1401 Carrollton Pkwy, Carrollton, TX 75010). The funeral service will follow immediately after at 10am and Graveside services will take place at 11:30am for family and honorary pallbearers at Restland in Dallas.
