George Ernest Stone Jr.'s Obituary
STONE, JR. GEORGE ERNEST died peacefully on May 16, 2014, after a valiant struggle with Alzheimer’s Disease, through which he remained gracious and steadfast. He was born January 25, 1927 in Edinburgh, Scotland to George, Sr. and Lily Stone. The family immigrated to America in 1930, settling in the Poconos of Pennsylvania, where he graduated from Stroudsburg High School on D-Day, 1944. As did many of the Greatest Generation, he joined the United States Navy that same year. He was honorably discharged in July, 1946. George married the love of his life, Criss Crosby, in Milford, PA on September 19, 1948. They remained a loyal and loving couple until death parted them on a beautiful spring day in May. Together they were impeccable parents to their three children: Gail, Gregg and Glenn. George began his career in the advertising business, and with great foresight moved the family to Dallas, TX in 1952. He was employed as Advertising Manager for Adleta Company for many years. In 1977 he was hired by his favorite news and advertising publication, The Dallas Morning News, and worked in their Marketing Research Department until he retired in 1996. George and Criss built their home in Lake Highlands in 1965, where they have been invaluable members of the Lake Highlands North Homeowners Association and VIP. As a long-time knowledge-seeker, George continued his education, taking courses in Computer Technology, English and Economics. In 2000, his Creative Writing courses resulted in his well-written autobiography called, “A Stone Named GEORGE”, as a much-appreciated gift to his family. He was a creative landscape designer, Master Gardener, avid fisherman, music-lover and artist. He loved to paint pictures with words and cameras and leaves a legacy of memories for all who knew him. George Stone was predeceased by his parents, George & Lily Stone and grandson, Randall Paul Stone. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Criss; daughter, Gail, her boyfriend, Terry; son, Gregg, his wife, Ani; son, Glenn, his wife, Cindy; grandchildren, Lisa-Kay Pierotti, husband, Chris, Eric Stone, wife, Laura, Jacki, Rachel, Sam and Ben Stone and great-granddaughter, Emma Stone. Visitation will be 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Wednesday, May 21,2014 Restland Funeral Home. The service will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, May 22, 2014 at Restland, 13005 Greenville Avenue, in the Wildwood Chapel.
