George J. Watts III's Obituary
George Jobling Watts, III, age 91, passed from this life to the next on Sunday, October 16, 2022, Born in Philadelphia, PA on August 3, 1931, George was the oldest of three children born to his parents, George Jobling Watts, Jr. and Ethel G..Watts. His father was a prominent banker in Philadelphia, PA and later, Dallas, Texas.
George attended Drexel University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; and graduated from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas. Following in his family's banking tradition, George graduated from the Southwest Graduate School of Banking at SMU. He was a member of the American Institute of Banking, and an adjunct Professor of Banking Law at San Antonio College. While living in San Antonio, George served in the Central Texas Credit Administration Division of First Republic Bank Corporation in the capacity of Senior Vice President. He was also a member of the Board of Directors of the Bexar County Appraisal Review Board. The first 32 and a half years of George’s career were spent in the commercial banking business and the last thirty years in legal consulting under the firm name George J. Watts & Associates.
In addition to professional organizations, George was a Kiwanian and 32nd degree Mason. In retirement, George moved to the Georgetown, TX area, where he was a member of Wellspring United Methodist Church. He served on the worship committee of the church for many years.
George is predeceased by his parents, his wife, Alice Ball Watts of Dallas, TX,.and his youngest sister, Kathleen Watts Phares of Houston, TX.
He is survived by his three children: George J. Watts, IV, and Betsy Watts Winkle, both of Dallas, TX, and Mary Watts Steger of Georgetown, TX. He is also survived by his sister, Elaine Watts Scott and brother-in-law Ben C. Ball, both of Houston, TX. In addition he is survived by six grandchildren and four great grandchildren, his nieces Cindy Scott of Dallas, Texas; Susan Scott Beasley and grand-nephew, Jackson Scott Beasley of Frisco, Texas, and his nieces, Mary Ball Ballard and Barbie Ball Kerr, of Houston, Texas.
A graveside service will commence at 1:00PM on Friday, November 4, 2022, at Restland Memorial Park.
