Georgia Berry Porter's Obituary
Georgia Porter, born January 28, 1920, in Walters, Oklahoma, passed away on April 10, 2015, in Irving, Texas. She had lived in Irving since 1963, relocating from Yazoo City, Mississippi. While living in Yazoo City, she was homeroom mother for many years as well as Brownie and Girl Scout Leader. She loved God and was a member of First Baptist Church of Irving for 52 years. Georgia loved her family and her family loved her. If anyone needed anything, she was there to help if at all possible. She was Past President, and lifelong member of the Irving DOES as well as a Grand Lodge Member of the DOES. She was known for her chocolate pie at bingo at the Elks Lodge and always ready to help where needed. Georgia loved playing canasta and joined the Irving Newcomers Club in 1963 and played canasta with her friends until just a few years ago. Her second home was Possum Kingdom Lake for many years. She took advantage of every opportunity to visit the lake. If anyone mentioned boating, she was ready. She had lots of patience when fishing. She would fish in the farm’s ponds, Possum Kingdom Lake, and anywhere she could drop a line, including deep sea fishing. She would catch, clean and cook. Plus, she liked to shoot skeet and hunt. Georgia loved the Dallas Cowboys and attended two Super Bowls. Her interests over the years included sewing, cooking holiday dinners for family, reading, family reunions, camping, traveling, and cruising. Georgia is preceded in death by her husband, J. C. Porter. Sr., and all of her loving ten sisters and five brothers. She is survived by her son J. C. Porter, Jr., of Irving, Texas; daughter and son-in-law, Nita Kay and Wayland Brooks, of Arlington, Texas; her grandchildren Brenda Hucks of Woodville. Alabama, Charles Porter of Forest, Mississippi, Ricky Porter of Irving, Texas, and Jessica Porter of Irving, Texas; 12 Great Grandchildren; 8 Great Great Grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and Hollie Bartley and all of her loving care givers from Sweet Pea Senior Services. A service was held April 13th at Restland Memorial Park. Dallas, Texas. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, TX 75243.
