Georgie "Darlene" Golson's Obituary
Georgie "Darlene" Penry Golson passed away peacefully on April 23, 2023 at her daughter's home in Garland, Texas. She was born August 4, 1956 in Paris, Texas in Lamar County. She was plucked out of school in 9th grade to help support her family, but she always dreamed of becoming a police officer. She had her daughter, Devin, at 19, and moved to Dallas Texas in 1976. She married her husband, Leon Golson in 1985. She worked as a crossing guard in Garland for many years and loved being around children. She would give them candy and help them across the street. Darlene moved to Alabama in 2017, then moved back to Texas and lived with her daughter and son in law in 2018. She lived her life peacefully, like every day was her last. She enjoyed eating good food, especially chicken alfredo from our local Italian restaurant, as well as pizza and fried chicken. She loved God and enjoyed going to church on Sundays. She enjoyed having people over for Christmas, Halloween, or for any other reason. She had enjoyed growing closer with her daughter in the last few years of her life. She was kind, and would help anyone in need, and lavish gifts on them. She is preceded in death by her father, George Penry; her mother, Suzie Penry; sisters, Suzie Penry, Paula Colegrove, and Mary Mannon, and brother Joseph Penry. She is survived by her daughter, Devin Havill-Austin; son-in-law, Tim Havill-Austin; brother, David Penry; brother-in-law, Duane Colegrove; nieces and nephews, Tiffany Sanchez and her husband Rick Sanchez; Nathan Colegrove, April Fox and her husband, Jon Fox; Mary Beth Colegrove, Katie Penry, Andrew Penry; great-niece and nephews, Sarah Colegrove, Matthew Colegrove, and Noah Colegrove. She was kind, and charitable, and will be missed. Today we celebrate her life! Love Always to the Moon and Back!
