Gerald C. Everett's Obituary
Gerald C. Everett died peacefully in Dallas on June 5, four days after celebrating his 95th birthday. He was born on June 1, 1921 in Ballentine, Montana, the middle of three children of James Blaine and Ella Everett and grew up on the 600 acre family farm. A member of “The Greatest Generation,” he enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps at the age of nineteen and served in World War II as a First Lieutenant pilot, flying reconnaissance and training missions into Africa, Italy and Arabia with the 19th Photo Mapping Squadron. He stayed in touch with his squadron members after his military service and for many years he and his wife attended yearly officer’s reunions. While temporarily stationed in Dallas during the war he met his wife, Geraldine, and at the completion of his military service the family settled in Dallas. He attended SMU, earning a BA and MBA in Education. Gerald taught and coached at Highland Park Middle and High School for thirty years, and in 1977 led the Highland Park High School boy’s golf team to the state championship. He retired in 1980 but continued to attend school functions for many years and maintained friendships with both faculty and former students. Gerald was an avid and accomplished golfer and enjoyed the friendly competition and camaraderie forged on the golf course. During his retirement years he could be found on the course five days a week, enjoying the game and the friendships of his regular golfing partners. He was the recipient of many awards for his golfing talent and continued to regularly follow the sport until his death. Above all, Gerald was deeply committed to his faith and to his family, even into advanced age. He was a long time member of North Dallas Baptist Church where he served on the Deacon Board and in many leadership and outreach roles. He actively coached and played on the church basketball and softball teams, leading the teams to state championships. He was a founding member of Audelia Road Baptist Church where he served as Chairman of the Deacons and leader of the Men’s Association, and mentored others with his unwavering example of faithfulness and commitment. Gerald is now joyfully reunited with his beloved wife Geraldine to whom he was married for 59 years and who proceeded him in death in 2001. He was a devoted son and brother, a loving husband and father, and a proud grandfather and great-grandfather. He is survived by his sons and their wives Gary and Carol Everett and Michael and Cindy Everett; grandchildren and spouses Paige and Raymond Johns, Leslie and Dave Peterson, Jason and Amy Everett, Ethan and Kiersten Everett and eight great-grandchildren. Services will be held at Restland Funeral Home on Friday, June 10 at 1:00 pm with Dr. David Allen conducting and a private entombment at Restland. Remembrances in Gerald’s honor may be made to Five Stone Church,1600 West Campbell Road, Garland, Texas 75044. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted into Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, Texas 75243.
