Gerald Lynn Hurley's Obituary
Gerald Lynn Hurley of Plano, Texas was born October 16, 1940, to Lyndoll Gray and Ruby Hornbeck Hurley in Paris, Texas. He passed away May 30, 2024, at the age of 83. Gerald attended East Paris Elementary School in Paris, Texas and Denison High School in Denison, Texas. At the age of 10, Gerald started his love of sports playing baseball and football which lasted until he pursued his passion as a sportswriter. He graduated from the University of Texas in Austin, Texas in 1962 and was a lifelong fan of the Texas Longhorns. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army serving from 1963-1969 when he was honorably discharged. Gerald found the love of his life Barbara Hargett while doing an audit for Southland Corporation. They were married in December 1964. He was an executive for Southland Corporation working there for 27 years. After retiring, he worked another 8 years for Key-Whitman Eye Center.
Gerald was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He loved his family dearly. Gerald was known for his kind heart, quiet and reserved nature, and filled with love. He was a devoted Christian and an excellent role model. He worshipped his Lord until he was called home. He was a long-time member of Waterview Church of Christ where he served as Treasurer and a Deacon.
He enjoyed fine dining, traveling the world with Barbara, taking pictures of court houses all over Texas, reading, relaxing at the Texoma lake house, the Texas Longhorns, the Texas Rangers, and country music. He enjoyed swapping stories, solving the world’s problems, and making strong friendships with the Collin Creek coffee group.
Gerald is survived by his wife of 59 years, Barbara Hargett Hurley; children, Kimberly Hurley Hurt and husband Rob, Gregory Lynn Hurley, Lisa Hurley Place Sullivan and husband Brent, and Kathleen Hurley Aljian and husband Lance; grandchildren, Victoria Hurt Foster and husband Clayton, Taylor Hurt Daniel and husband Anthony, Jordan Hurt Bassett and husband Aden, Jacob Aljian, Rollin Place, Parker Aljian, Caleigh Sullivan, and Gavin Sullivan; great-grandchildren, Harley Jo Daniel and Obadiah Foster.
Gerald is proceeded in death by his parents Lyndoll and Ruby Hurley. He is survived by his brother Robert Hurley, brother Phillip Hurley and wife Donna, and sister Cyndi Moore and husband Joel along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
