Gerald Loyd Rodgers' Obituary
Gerald Loyd Rodgers was born on September 14, 1931, in Mishawaka, Indiana, and entered into the Lord’s presence on June 2, 2010, at his home in Dallas, Texas. The son son of Dortha Leona (nee Burger) and Elmer Elsworth Rodgers, he graduated from Mishawaka High School in 1950 and married his high school sweetheart, Jean, in 1952. Following graduation from Purdue University in 1954 with a degree in mechanical engineering, the couple was stationed in Germany with the U.S. Army. Upon returning stateside, Gerry pursued a career in engineering and business, working for such corporations as Delco Radio and Ranco Controls in the Midwest. He held several engineering patents. The opportunity to serve as vice president of engineering with Friedrich brought Gerry and family to San Antonio in 1969. There the Rodgers were active members of Christ Presbyterian Church, where Gerry served as elder. Following the lengthy illness and death of his dear wife in 1999, and upon his retirement, Gerry moved to Dallas in 2002, where God blessed him a second time in marriage as he wed Ann Haines and they enjoyed seven happy years together. In addition to worshiping at Redeemer Bible Church of Dallas, Gerry enjoyed spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren, and friends. He especially looked forward to yearly trips to Nebraska and Michigan to visit relatives. He also stayed busy consulting with Dallas businesses and Christian organizations, designing web pages and computer applications. He loved the Lord and his family. He is survived by his wife Ann Haines Rodgers of Dallas, son Michael W. Rodgers and wife, Jane, of Rowlett, Texas; daughter Donna Rodgers Achilles and husband, Bobby, of Spring Branch, Texas; son Joseph A. Rodgers and wife, Kathy, of Corrigan, Texas; grandchildren Jacob and wife, Rachel; Carrie, Steve, and Tim Rodgers; father-in-law George Greenawalt; brother LaMar Rodgers; sisters Joan Hunt and Janet Kipp; sister-in-law Irene O’Brien; numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jean Greenawalt Rodgers, parents, Dortha and Elmer Rodgers; mother-in-law Marcia Greenawalt;; brothers-in-law Darl Kipp and Sam Hunt; sister-in-law Pat Rodgers. Arrangements are with Restland Dallas. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, June 7, 2010, at Redeemer Bible Church, 721 Easton Road, Dallas 75218. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 8, at Mission Park North in San Antonio.
