Geraldine L. Hughes' Obituary
Geraldine (Jerry) was born on July 27, 1925 in Butte, Montana. She spent early years in Salmon, Idaho. She graduated from high school in Salt Lake City, Utah and attended UCLA in Los Angeles, California. Jerry met the love of her life, Cleland Noble Hughes, Jr. at the USO in Los Angeles, California in 1945 where Cleland had just returned from over-seas duty with the Army Air Corps. Cleland proceeded to Pueblo, Colorado where he was assigned to instruct new B-29 crews, but did not forget Jerry. Jerry and Cleland were married in Los Angeles in 1946 where both then attended UCLA. After graduation, Cleland and Jerry moved to Dallas, TX in 1947. Jerry was a wonderful wife and mother who assisted Cleland as he rose in his lifetime career in banking. She was a member in many service organizations. Jerry was a talented artist and sculptor. She and Cleland had been married for almost 47 years when Cleland passed away in 1992. Jerry moved to Tyler, Texas to be near family in 2006. Jerry was preceded in death by her grandparents, her parents, William Murphy and Marjorie Schultz Murphy, her sister, Dorothy Murphy Alexander, her beloved spouse, Cleland Noble Hughes, Jr., and her grandson, Cleland Henry Hughes. Jerry is survived by her son, Craig T. Hughes and wife, Karen, of Tyler, Texas, her son, Tyler Gerald Hughes, Sr. and wife Mary of McPherson, Kansas, her grandchildren, Dorothy J. Hughes of Mission, Kansas, Tyler G. Hughes, Jr., of Vancouver, Washington, John A. C. Hughes, of Austin, Texas and J. Ethan T. Hughes formerly of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, her nephews and her niece, William Alexander and wife Pat Alexander of Colorado Springs, Lynn Alexander and wife, Judy Alexander of Grand Junction, Colorado, Steve Alexander, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Marjorie Alexander of Colorado Springs, Colorado and by great nephew, Paul Alexander and wife, Nichole Alexander, of Denver, Colorado and great niece, Elizabeth Alexander of Austin, Texas, great-great nieces, Hayden Alexander and Carlyn Alexander of Denver, Colorado. Graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, November 29, 2016 at Restland Memorial Park. Although flowers are welcome, donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the Sharon Shrine Transportation Fund in memory of Jerry Hughes, 10027 TX-31 Tyler, TX 75705.
