German Eugenio Lopez's Obituary
Heaven gained a unique and bright spirit on February 15th, 2018. German Eugenio (‘Gene’) López passed away at home surrounded by family and friends.Born on October 26th, 1930 in Arecibo, Puerto Rico, Gene entered the United States Air Force in 1948, where he worked as a medic and served in special operations. Upon retirement from active duty in 1968, Gene had a robust work history. He was Director of Radiology at Methodist Hospital in Lubbock, Assistant Administrator at Brownwood Community Hospital, Director of Radiology at Medical Plaza Hospital in Ft Worth and then Plano General Hospital, Assistant Administrator at Texas Scottish Rite Hospital, and finally a CT Scan Technician at St Paul Hospital in Dallas.Gene married Shirley in 1973, and the two families combined in “Brady Bunch” fashion. He was the happiest when surrounded by family. At the dream home they built in 2001, he grilled a mean steak, served a stiff drink, enjoyed an occasional (wink) scotch, and was like the pied piper with children and pets. At parties, Gene was the first on the dance floor and the last to leave.A man of faith, Gene served at St. Ann Catholic Parish in Coppell as a volunteer monitor in the Perpetual Adoration Chapel. At home, wherever you found Gene sitting, a rosary was close by and family meals always started with a prayer. It’s hard to capture in a few words the life of an individual. He loved and was loved. He had a strong faith. He lived a meaningful life with zest. Gene is survived by his wife, Shirley, and six children: Steve, Colette, Trish, Brentt, Bryant, and Tico. Alongside 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren, an extended family of 50 people honor him the best we know how – with laughter and fellowship.
