Gioi Nguyen's Obituary
In loving memory of our father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Nguyen Duc Gioi (Joseph), who passed away on February 6, 2019, at the age of 87. He was a carpenter, inventor, and a religious man who will be missed by his wife of 68 years, Nguyen Thi Bui, their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He was the eldest son of Tot and Can Nguyen.Gioi was born on May 25, 1931. He married his wife, Bui, at the age of 20. He lost his first son and his second daughter shortly after their births. When his first daughter was around 1 year old, he was incarcerated by the Viet Cong for resisting to join the Party. He asked his wife to take their daughter to South Vietnam. After six grueling years, he was released from jail but was not allowed to leave the village. Yet he escaped, determined to reunite with his wife and daughter. With ingenuity and guidance from God, he managed to find his way to his family. After 15 peaceful years, the country fell to Communist rule. Knowing what would be in store for them, Gioi and his wife gathered their young children and escaped Vietnam. With providence, they were rescued and placed in Fort Chaffee until a generous church sponsored them in Indiana. After 3 years, he and the family moved to Texas to began the next and final chapter.He is survived by: Wife: Nguyen Thi Bui Eldest Sister: Nguyen Thi Giong, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren Younger Sister: Nguyen Thi Hong Nhan, husband, children, and grandchildren Sister in-Law: Nguyen Thi Bang, children, and grandchildren Daughter: Nguyen Thi Hong, children, and grandchildrenDaughter: Nguyen Thuy Nga, husband, children, and grandchildren Son: Nguyen Hung Son, wife, and children Son: Nguyen Duc Chinh, wife, and children Daughter: Nguyen Thu Lieu and son Daughter: Cynthia Phuong Nguyen, husband, and children Daughter: Maryanne Trang Nguyen, husband, and daughter His memorial services will be as follows:Wednesday, February 13, 2019, 6:00 PM Burial Rites with Mass service will be held at Restland Funeral Home Thursday, February 14, 2019 & Friday, February 15, 2019, 3:00 – 8:00 PM Visitation and Prayers at Restland Funeral Home Saturday, February 16, 2019, 10:30 AM –Mass at St Peter Vietnamese Catholic Church 10123 Garland Rd., Dallas Texas 75218;Followed by Burial Service at Restland Funeral Home.Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Cemeter, 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, Texas 75243.
