Gladys Nell Bertrand's Obituary
Gladys Nemmer Bertrand, born in Waco TX October 15, 1911, passed away November 13, 2011 in Dallas TX, surrounded by family members who loved her dearly. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, she dedicated her life to serving her family and others. She maintained a close relationship with God and a consistent positive attitude throughout her life. When asked if she was having a good day, she invariably responded, “All my days are good.” She grew up in Waco, Texas, where she was a “jumping center” for the junior high basketball team at 5 feet 2 inches tall. She obtained a high school education, married her sweetheart, and worked side by side with him at Bertrand’s Restaurant. She was a diligent problem solver, serving as president of the Aggie’s Mom Club in Waco and manager of her condominium complex in Dallas. She was a dedicated mother to her two sons, always encouraging excellence and teaching them to do their best. She was a true caretaker to anyone she came into contact with and tirelessly helped care for her many grandchildren. In her 100 years, she persevered through difficult times and many joyous occasions. Through it all, she remained strong, kept smiling, and taught us all to be better people. She is predeceased by her parents Frank and Bettie Glauberg Nemmer, husband Roy B. Bertrand, Sr., son Roy Bertrand Jr. , and 9 siblings, George, Frank, Garfield, Maybelle, Marie, Alma, Bertha Rose, Joseph Boyd, and James Richard Nemmer. Survived by son Dr. John Bertrand and wife Andrea of Dallas, daughter-in-law Darlene Bertrand of Waco. Grandchildren, Jennifer Heinz and husband Jeff, Kathleen Reeves and husband Kyle, Karri Bolton and husband Chris, Kimberly Bertrand, Lauri Blanch and husband Rob, David Bertrand and wife Nikki, Sarah Wilson and husband Ben, Amy Sawvell and husband Travis, Lindsey Mulholland and husband Nathan, Brian Bertrand, Emily Bertrand, Michael Bertrand, Caitlin Bulloch, Mackenzie Bulloch, and Austin Bertrand. Great-grandchildren, Branson Heinz and wife Patty, Jason and Justin Reeves, Nicholas Hunter, Ella, Samantha and Adeline Blanch, Olivia Mulholland, and Annie Bertrand. Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00pm, Friday, November 18th at Restland Funeral Home. Graveside service will be held at 3:00pm, Saturday, November 19th at Restland Memorial Park.
