Glenda Stephens Ashton's Obituary
Glenda Stephens Ashton, 72, passed away on April 20, 2019 surrounded by family members in her Dallas, TX home. Known to many as “Sparkle”, she lit up the lives and lifted the spirits of everyone she met. Although smiling till the end, she lost a long-standing battle with cancer. She was a loving wife, dedicated daughter, and devoted mother and grandmother.Glenda was born in Tulsa, OK on January 20, 1947. She graduated from East Central High School in 1965 and attended a year at Oklahoma State University before returning home to help her mother care for her ailing father. She married Bill Stephens in Broken Arrow, OK on June 2, 1967 and raised 3 wonderful children, Robert Dean Stephens, William Lance Stephens, and Stephanie Stephens Hockman. Glenda was known for her charismatic work style and efficiency as the executive assistant to the President of Rockwell International, as an outstanding sales assistant at Ford Glass Plant, and as a customer-centric owner of The Class Act Boutique.On August 10, 1985, Glenda married James “Jim” Edward Ashton and remained dedicated to their marriage for almost 34 years. For Glenda, family was her single most important mission. She blended her three children with Jim’s two sons, Michael James Ashton and Kevin Lee Ashton. Together, Glenda and Jim created a close-knit family that traveled together to places like New Zealand, England, France, and Argentina and they happily watched their family grow to include 12 grandchildren.Glenda is preceded in death by her father, Glenn Covington. She is survived by her husband, James Edward Ashton; her mother and step-grandfather, Emma Jean (Covington, Tygart) and John Crowell; her children and their spouses, Robert and Stacey Stephens, Lance and AJ Stephens, Stephanie and Christopher Hockman, Michael and Diane Ashton, and Kevin and Christina Ashton; and her 12 grand-children, Haley Stephens, Cooper Stephens, Andy Ashton, Sadie Ashton, Matthew Hockman, Lila Ashton, Madeline Hockman, Kingston Stephens, Vivian Ashton, Creed Stephens, Ginger Ashton, and Christian Stephens.In celebration of Glenda’s amazing life, two memorial services will be held. One will be at 10am on Saturday, May 4, 2019 in Restland’s Wildwood Chapel (13005 Greenville Ave., Dallas, TX). A celebration will follow at their home. A second memorial service will be held at 1pm on Monday, May 6, 2019 in the Chapel at Oklahoma Methodist Manor (4134 E. 31st St., Tulsa, OK). A reception will follow.In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Glenda’s name to Help for Children (www.hfc.org).
