Glenda Rhey Welch's Obituary
Glenda Rhey Welch peacefully passed away surrounded by her family on March 28th, 2025, at the age of 72. She was born on August 31st, 1952, to Sidney and Era Johnson in Houston, Texas. Glenda had 2 brothers, Robert and Earl, and a younger sister, Rita. As a child, Glenda put ketchup on everything, including homemade ice cream. Her mother made sure she ate it all. [her granddaughter has Inherited the same habit of putting ketchup on everything also] Glenda attended MacArthur High School before briefly studying Cosmetology. Glenda enjoyed a long career with Walmart in Wylie working in the Cash Office. Glenda married her beloved spouse Tom March 28, 1988. Glenda had 2 children, Bridget (and her husband Carl) and Michael, and 2 grandchildren, Allen (and his wife Gladys) and Abigail. Glenda ’s most precious thing in life was being Mawmaw. [She got the name from Allen because he refused to call her grandma, granny, Grammy and several other suggestions that was named until Glenda said well you say mama so how about Mawmaw - she was mawmaw from that point on]. She treasured her time with her grandkids, never failing to send them a hug and kiss when calling on the phone. Glenda loved the Dukes of Hazzard so much that she named her dogs Roscoe and Daisy. Glenda would always send an encouraging message to each friend by Facebook or text message. Glenda enjoyed water aerobics six times every week with her friends whom she lovingly referred to as The Mermaid Group. Glenda often got together with friends and family to play cards and dominos. We couldn’t have asked for a better Mawmaw, and we’ll miss Glenda every day. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all those who knew her. Glenda was preceded in death by Michael, her son, and is survived by Tom, her husband; Bridget, her daughter; Allen and Gladys, her grandson and granddaughter-in-law; and Abigail, her granddaughter.
