Glenn William Shanks' Obituary
Glenn William Shanks was born December 19, 1944, in Dallas, TX, and passed away March 21, 2021, in Frisco, TX. He was affectionately known as Bill or Pop throughout his entire life.
He was preceded in death by his father, Ralph Shanks, step-mother Jackie Shanks, and his mother, Marie Jarrett Weaver. He is survived by son, Glenn W. Shanks Jr. and wife Lis; daughter, Catherine Osborne and husband Lance, daughter Jill Conley and husband Jacob, and seven grandsons, Hayden, Garrett, Hunter, Gregory, Jake, Cade, and Cole. He is also survived by Nancee Shanks, his brother Ralph Shanks Jr. and wife Linda, brother Bob Shanks and wife Susan, and sister Betty Buchanan, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Bill was a proud veteran of the United States Navy and VietNam War, serving aboard the U.S.S. Mauna Kea and the U.S.S. Waccamaw, from 1962 to 1965. He owned and operated a successful delivery company in Dallas for many years. More recently, he volunteered for the Dallas Police Department, earning volunteer of the year in 2013. Bill almost single-handedly kept the word “icebox” alive in the dictionary. He recently almost learned the difference between a modem and a computer. He also found great joy in long conversations with auto warranty salesmen. His sense of humor will not be forgotten.
The family would like to thank the entire staff at the Dallas VA Medical Center for the incredible care they provided for many years.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, April 2, 2021, at 1:00 p.m., at Restland Cemetery, 13005 Greenville Avenue in Dallas, TX.
In lieu of flowers, donations to woundedwarriorproject.org/donate are greatly appreciated.
